Inside MMA: Thiago Alves talks weight cutting

February 12, 2009 / / /

Here's Thiago "Pitbull" Alves appearing on Inside MMA and discussing his weight cutting. He says he walks around at about 200 - 205 lbs before cutting down to make weight for fights. He says he had trouble making weight for the Matt Hughes fight because he had a sprained ankle ten days before the event and had to take a cortisone shot which made him retain water. Other than that, he says he has no trouble making weight, and easily cut the 35 lbs needed for his welterweight (170 lbs) fight against Josh Koscheck. Which is, well, insane. Because that's 35 lbs! The only way I could cut 35 lbs is if you gave me a year, a barf bucket, and a knife to cut off some limbs.
